Hello,

I am Katie, one of the founders and directors of The Family and Therapy Place in Swansea. I am a qualified Counsellor and Play Therapist. I began counselling training in 2010, and since then I have worked with children, young people and adults experiencing a range of emotional issues, with a focus on attachment and trauma.

During our sessions together, I will provide you with a confidential, safe and nurturing space to explore all aspects of your life in the here and now. Using Person Centred, Gestalt and Emotion-Focused Therapy and Creativity and Play as my main ways of working, I am here to provide a space that is just for you, where I will listen without judgement, and with warmth and acceptance. Working together, at your pace, we will explore areas of yourself, your life and your relationships, to better understand yourself, and identify parts of your life where you feel stuck or you want to change.

I will help you to look back over your childhood, to help you make sense of difficult or traumatic childhood experiences which may have impacted your adult life in ways that you might not have realised. I am here to help you make sense of and recognise patterns of behaviour that you repeat in your daily life and relationships. I will work with you, to find the most effective way to help you move forward.

I am passionate about supporting parents to improve their relationships with their children and their families. I work a lot with parents, to better understand the influence and impact their own parenting has had on the way they parent their children. I can help you understand and work through the effect your attachment history has had on your life, making connections and supporting you to move on with your life, with more confidence and self-acceptance.

I am here to help you really understand what attachment means, and how it can impact your relationship with your children and their behaviour on a day to day basis. Learning about neurological development, emotional regulation and the impact of misattunement in parent-child relationships inspired me to undertake further professional training so I could improve my own family relationships, and so that I could also reach as many families as possible. I have come to understand, and wholeheartedly believe in, the healing power of play for children, adults and families.

I am here to talk through any questions you may have and I can’t wait to meet you.
